John Knott was born February 18, 1843 in Guilford county, North Carolina and died February 15, 1912 in Champaign, Illinois. He married twice. Ellen Cole and Kate Lamphier. He and Ellen Cole had 9 chidlren. John fought in the Civil War and was taken prisoner. He moved to Illinois around 1890. Ellen died shortly after the relocation.
